5 Reasons Your Next River Cruise Should Be with Avalon Waterways
Published Wednesday, July 26th 2017 - Updated Thursday, October 26th 2017Wow! We just finished our first ever River Cruise and we had a fantastic time. As travel agents, we have access to all the top river cruise lines such as Tauck, Uniworld, Ama Waterways, and Viking, but we chose Avalon Waterways for our first personal experience. Here are our five reasons your next river cruise should be with Avalon Waterways.
-
Cabin configuration - Even though most of your experience on board will be outside of your cabin stateroom you are still spending a third of your time in your cabin. We wanted the best experience possible. Avalon Waterways does something unique with their balcony cabins. They’ve turned the beds to face the river! We saw other ships sailing by and their beds face a wall of the cabin. Not very exciting if you ask me.
-
Balcony configuration - Other ships have small balconies with two chairs and a small table outside of a sliding glass door. It’s nearly impossible to get two people in this very tiny area. Avalon Waterways created a unique balcony which is part of the overall cabin. You don’t have to go outside and your sliding glass door is a double door that opens to one side so that you both can sit comfortably as you sail the Danube or Rhine. Avalon didn’t want to take space from the cabin to create a balcony that is minimally used in most cases for the traditional balcony.
-
Larger Cabins - Unlike other river cruise lines that appeal to the mass market and pack as many passengers on board as possible, Avalon Waterways does not. Their ships typically have a passenger capacity of about 150 people. Cabins are larger, the dining room and lounges aren’t crammed with people, and the excursions are more intimate with smaller groups.
-
On Board Experience - Avalon Waterways includes excellent tours of the local towns that are visited. Everyday there is an INCLUDED tour led by experts in the area to give the history and significance of that area. You can also add additional tours, at a nominal cost, to explore further. Besides the tours, the entertainment provided by Albert, in the lounge, each afternoon and evening was excellent. Also, Avalon Waterways brought in local talent from the area to entertain us. The Afrodite- The Salon Orchestra was a highlight of the trip. These five, beautiful, women performed wonderfully on board with an arrangement of broadway hits set to classical musical. Here is a sampling of what we heard. https://youtu.be/1web3KA0yew
-
Food - Oh the food! It was excellent. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet style with the ability to get made to order omellettes and other egg items along with a specialty dish for the day if you chose. The variety was amazing. The quality, and freshness of items was perfect. If you have any dietary needs, the chef is ready to accommodate you with custom dishes. Dinner each night was from a menu which focused local cuisine as we sailed through different countries. And, you could choose standard fare of salmon and steak if you weren’t feeling adventurous. Lunch and dinner include beer and wine which is a plus.
These 5 reasons your next river cruise should be with Avalon Waterways really equal value. For the money you really get a top notch ship that’s not overly crowded, above average size staterooms, an experience on board that is excellent, and you won’t be left hungry or unsatisfied.
There is so much more I could discuss about this cruise such as the included and optional excursions Avalon Waterways had for their passengers. I’ll save that for another post.
If you’re considering a River Cruise for your next epic adventure, consider Avalon Waterways. As always, you can call us to discuss and book your next river cruise. We work with clients all over the US and will help you receive the best possible river cruise experience.
Happy river cruising!
